WR3000 4-Port Wireless DSL/Cable Router

Chapter 6:

Wireless Configuration

This chapter discusses how to confi gure the Wireless screens on the

WR3000 Wireless Router.

6.1Wireless LAN Overview

This section introduces the wireless LAN(WLAN) and some basic scenarios.

6.1.1 IBSS

An Independent Basic Service Set (IBSS), also called an Ad-hoc network, is the simplest WLAN confi guration. An IBSS is defi ned as two or more computers with wireless adapters within range of each other that from an independent (wireless) network without the need of an Wireless Router (AP).

6.1.2 BSS

A Basic Service Set (BSS) exists when all communications between wireless stations or between a wireless station and a wired network client go through one Wireless Router (AP).

Intra-BSStraffi c is traffi c between wireless stations in the BSS. When Intra-BSS is enabled, wireless station A and B can access the wired network and communicate with each other. When Intra-BSS is disabled, wireless station A and B can still access the wired network but cannot communicate with each other.

The illustration on the next page describes a BSS setup.
