The construction of, and materials used for a hearth exten- sion are shown in Figures 39.2 and 39.3. A hearth extension of this construction may be covered with any non-combustible decorative material and may have a maximum thickness as per Figure 38.1 on page 38. Seal gaps between the hearth exten- sion and the front of the fireplace with a bead of non-combus- tible sealant.
