TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

If you have followed the instructions and are having difficulty operation the unit, locate the SYMPTOM in the left column below. Check the corresponding POSSIBLE CAUSE and CORRECTIVE ACTION columns to locate and remedy the problem.

SYMPTOM	POSSIBLE CAUSE	CORRECTIVE ACTION
No power.	• The power cord is disconnected.	• Plug the power cord into the wall outlet securely.
The power is on, but the DVD/VCR does	• No tape is inserted.	• Insert a tape or disc. (See page E27 or E39)

No picture.	• The video channel of the TV is not set to channel	• Set theTV’s video channel to 3 or 4.

	• The video cable is not connected securely.	• Connect the video cable securely.

	• An unplayable disc is loaded.	• Load a playable disc. (Check the disc logo, type,

No sound.	• The audio cables are not connected securely.	• Connect the audio cable securely.
	• The wrong function is selected.	• Select the correct function. (See page E20.)
	• Faulty speaker connections.	• Connect the speaker wires firmly to the speaker
		terminals. (See page E14.)
	• Volume control is set to minimum.	• Turn up the volume.
Sound is heard from only one speaker.	• Faulty speaker connections.	• Connect the speaker wires firmly to the speaker
		terminals. (See page E14.)
The playback picture is poor.	• The disc is dirty.	• Clean the disc. (See page E38.)
	• Tape heads are dirty.	• Clean video heads. (See page E65.)
	• Tape is a rental or was recorded on another VCR.	• Use [Tracking] +/– for manual tracking adjustment
		while tape is playing. (See page E29.)
	• An unplayable disc is loaded.	• Load a playable disc. (Check the disc logo, type,
		color system and regional code.) (See page E38.)
The DVD/VCR does not start playback.	• No tape is inserted.	• Insert a tape or disc. (See page E27 or E39.)
	• No disc is inserted.
	• An unplayable disc is inserted.	• Load a playable disc. (Check the disc type, color
		system, and regional code.) (See page E38.)
	• The disc is placed upside down.	• Place the disc with the playback side down.
	• The disc is not placed within the guide.	• Place the disc on the disc tray correctly inside the
		guide.
	• The disc is dirty.	• Clean the disc. (See page E38.)
	• “PARENTAL” is set.	• Cancel the parental lock function or change the
		rating level. Reset it after play. (See page E59.)
On music CD - sound only comes from	• Unit automatically sets 2.1 channel (Front left and	• Press [SURROUND] repeatedly to select “Surr”,
