5 Carefully lift the adapter out of its antistatic container. Check the adapter for any visible signs of damage which may have occurred during shipment.
If you find a problem, immediately notify your network supplier and the shipping service which delivered your adapter.
Note: Adaptec PCI adapters require a bus mastering slot.
6 Remove the metal guard from the back of the expansion slot.
7 Holding the adapter by its metal bracket, carefully insert the adapter into the expansion slot. Make sure the board is inserted all the way into the slot. Both rows of gold fingers must be fully seated in the PC connector.
8 Secure the adapter in the expansion slot with the screw used for the metal guard.
9 Screw the computer’s cover back on the computer.
10 Reconnect all devices and cables. See Chapter 3, Connecting to Your Network Cable for more information on network cabling.
11 Configure the adapter as described in Configuring the PCI Adapter on page 2-2 or Configuring Quartet Adapters on page 2-4.
Configuring the PCI Adapter
Your PCI computer’s BIOS determines available adapter resources and configures the Adaptec PCI adapters automatically. However, depending on your system, you may need to configure your mother- board, PCI BIOS, or both.
Remove any jewelry from your hands and wrists.
Disconnect all cables connected to your computer.
Turn OFF your computer and unplug it from its power source.

4 Using insulated or nonconducting tools, unscrew your computer’s cover from the chassis.
