IP Softphone 2050 Settings
Select the Override communication server values to adjust the following values:
•Jitter
•Highwater Mark
•Early Packet Resync
•Late Packet Resync
Jitter
Though voice frames are transmitted at a fixed rate, some frames arrive faster or slower than others. This can result in degraded sound quality called jitter. A jitter buffer adds a small delay in the delivery of the frames, smoothing out transmission and improving sound quality.
To increase or decrease the number of frames in the jitter buffer, click the up or down arrows on the Jitter spin box.
Highwater Mark
The highwater mark indicates the greatest number of frames the jitter buffer allows before it starts discarding packets.
To increase or decrease the highwater mark, click the up or down arrows on the Highwater Mark spin box.
Note: The highwater mark must be set to 2.5 times the value in the Jitter spin box. If assigned a smaller value, the IP Softphone 2050 automatically corrects the error.
Early Packet and Late Packet Resync
These values tell the IP Softphone 2050 when to discard the contents of the jitter buffer and restart.
If a packet arrives either before the early packet resync value (set in milliseconds), or after the late packet resync value (also set in milliseconds), then the resync operation begins.
To increase or decrease either the early packet resync value or the late packet resync value, click the up or down arrows on the corresponding spin boxes.
