Replacing the Upper Knife

Replace the upper knife when it becomes dull or nicked.

Replacement upper knives are available from authorized Janome dealers.

 

1.

Unplug the machine.

Open both the front and side covers.

 

3.

Set the upper knife (a) in its engaged position and

lock the upper knife. (See page 62.) Remove the

 

upper knife by loosening the bolt (b) with the

 

 

wrench (c).

 

4.

Brush the lower knife and the surrounding area to

(c)

 

clean out any accumulation of lint, etc.

 

Lower the upper knife to its lowest position by

turning the handwheel towards you. At this position, put a new upper knife in place, making sure that the edge of the blade is approximately 0.5 to 1.0 mm below the surface of the lower knife (d). Tighten the bolt (b) firmly. Unlock the upper knife.

NOTE:

The lower knife is made of a special hard alloy and will not normally have to be replaced.

Replacing the Light Bulb

1. Unplug the machine.

2. Raise the presser foot and swing open the lamp cover.

3. Push up and turn the bulb counterclockwise to remove.

4. Insert the new 15 watt bulb into the socket. Push up and turn the bulb clockwise. Close the lamp cover.
