FINALIZATION (TOC RECORDING)

What is finalization?

Finalization is the final process in recording a CD-R or CD-RW disc that is playable on standard CD players. (However, CD-RW discs, whether finalized or not, can only be played back on a CD-RW disc player.)

Once a disc is finalized, neither recording nor skip ID setting/clearing is possible on the disc; be very careful.

Never cut the power supply during finalization, for this may lead to disc damage.

2

Ensure that there is no scratch, dust or stain on the disc.

If the disc is dusty or stained, clean it by referring to "Disc maintenance" on page 9.

If finalization is not required, press the

stop ( ) button; finalization will be aborted.

The procedure is canceled automatically when the unit has remained in record-pause mode for about 10 minutes or more.

The remaining time until the completion of finalization is displayed during finalization.

depending on discs.

• Wait until the time information is displayed.

3 Press the pause ( ) button.

Finalization starts now.

It usually takes about 4 minutes until the finalization completes.

When the CD-R finalization is completed normally, the CD-R indicator changes to the CD indicator, and the unit enters stop mode automatically.

When the CD-RW finalization is completed normally, the FINALIZE indicator lights and the unit enters stop mode automatically.

CAUTION:

Once finalization is started, no operation button is accepted until the finalization completes.

If a scratched, stained or dusty disc is subjected to finalization, the finalization may sometimes not complete.

In case finalization does not complete in about 10 minutes from the start, it can be forced to be aborted by pressing the stop ( ) button. But such a disc cannot be played on ordinary CD players.

Never unplug the power cord during finalization.

If the power supply is interrupted due to power failure or by mistake during finalization, the remaining finalization resumes as soon as the power supply is recovered. In this case "RESUME" is displayed until the finalization is completed. Note that the disc finalization may not resume properly in some cases.
