Periodic Routine Maintenance

Cleaning the Paper Path

Clean the paper path:

When replacing the print unit

After clearing a paper jam

When printouts show toner smudging

Notice:

If the print unit is still installed, complete this procedure quickly. You should avoid exposing the photoconductor drum to light for more than three minutes.

If you think you need more time, remove the print unit and store it in a clean, dark place. To remove the unit, see the preceding section Removing the Print Unit.

Open the upper door and remove the print unit. Be careful not to damage the green drum surface. Look for spilled toner on the inside of the printer. Use a damp cloth to remove any toner stains.

Cleaning the Corona Wire

The corona wire is located in the metallic housing (chrome frame) on the base frame inside the printer.

Perform this procedure:

When replacing the print unit

When the printout shows vertical white lines or printing is too light

Notice:

You should avoid exposing the photoconductor drum to light for more than three minutes.

Be careful not to break the corona wire.
