To clear a paper jam, follow these steps:

Notice:

Clear paper jams quickly to avoid problems with the fuser unit.

Do not touch or scratch the green drum surface when clearing the paper jam.

Be careful not to expose the drum to light for more than three minutes.

Take special care when removing a jam from the transfer corona unit to avoid damage to the corona wire.

1. Check the error message PAPER JAMn. n indicates the position where the sheet has jammed. Follow the instructions shown below after step 3.

• n = 0 or 1, go to step 4a.

• n = 2, go to step 4b.

• n = 3, go to step 4c.

• n = 4, go to step 4d.

n = 4 appears when your printer is equipped with an optional duplex unit.

2. Open the upper door.

3. Remove the print unit. For detailed procedures and advisory notes, see the section Removing the Print Unit in Chapter 5.
