mReducing the size of the disk cache makes more memory available. (See the disk cache section in this chapter.)

mReducing the amount of memory a program uses may allow you to open more programs at once (see the chapter on setting up your programs).

Adjusting the disk cache

The disk cache is memory set aside to help programs work more quickly and efficiently. But the memory in the disk cache is not available for opening programs or documents. If you often want to open more programs than memory allows, you can set the disk cache to a smaller size.

You set the size of the disk cache in the Memory control panel.

1.Choose Control Panels from the Apple (K) menu and open the Memory control panel.

2.Click the up or down arrows next to the Cache Size box.

Arrows adjust cache in preset amounts.

3. Choose Restart from t Specialh

menu.
