Before you print

Before you can print, your computer must be connected to a printer, either directly or over a network. See the information that came with your printer for instructions on how to connect it, or check with your network administrator.

Choosing a printer

Once your printer is connected, you must tell your computer which printer to use by choosing that printer. You need to do this even if only one printer is connected to your computer. You choose a printer when you’re using it for the first time and whenever you change printers.

You choose the printer in a program called the Chooser. How you use the Chooser depends on whether your printer is connected directly or over a network.
