To connect a SCSI device to the SCSI port on your PowerBook, you need an Apple HDI-30 SCSI System Cable.

Setting up one or more SCSI devices for use with your PowerBook involves the steps listed here.

minstalling software

msetting SCSI ID numbers

mchecking that the SCSI chain is properly terminated

mconnecting cables

These steps are described in the following sections.

Installing software

Most SCSI devices come with software that allows your computer to communicate with them. These programs are called drivers. (If no drivers come with a device, then it doesn’t need any.) To install a driver, follow the instructions that came with the device.

Setting SCSI ID numbers

Each device in a SCSI chain must have a unique ID number between 1 and 6 so the computer can identify it properly. The information in this section can help you assign SCSI ID numbers to the devices you want to use with your computer.

sWarning: Using two or more devices with the same SCSI ID number can cause your equipment to malfunction. You could lose information as a result. s

Your computer has the SCSI ID number 7, and its internal hard disk has the number 0.

See the documentation that came with your SCSI devices for information about ID numbers and how to change them.
