Chapter3 Installing the CiscoAS5350 Connecting to the Console and Auxiliary Ports
Connect a synchronous serial port to a modem or a CSU/DSU with a serial transition cable. (See
Figure3-12.)

Use the console terminal for lo cal administrative access to the universal gateway. You can only connect
a terminal to the console por t. You can use the auxiliary port to conn ect a terminal or a modem for remote
access to the universal gateway.

Connecting to the Console Port

To connect a terminal (an ASCII ter mi nal or a PC running term in al em u la tio n software) to the console
port on the CiscoAS5350, follow this procedure:
Step 1 Connect the terminal to the console port using an RJ-45 rollover cable and an RJ-45-to-DB-25 or
RJ-45-to-DB-9 adapter. The adapters prov id ed ar e lab el ed TE RMINAL. The adapters and the roll over
cable are included in the acces so r y ki t t ha t c om es with the universal gateway. (See Figure 3-13 .)

Step 2 Configure your terminal or PC terminal emulation software for 9600 baud, 8data bits, no parity, and
2 s top bi ts.
Step 3 Configure the console port. See the CiscoAS5350 and Cisco AS5400 Universal Gateway Software
Configuration Guide. This document is available on the World Wide Web and the documentation
CD-ROM that comes with your universal gateway. (See the Obtaining Documentat ion section on
page xiii.)
