Appendix Replacing Flash Memory SIMMs
Step 8 Insert the new SDRAM DIMM by slidi ng the end with the metal fingers int o the DIMM socket, as shown

Step 9 Snap the latches into place. D o not use excessive force because the sock et m igh t break.
Step 10 Replace the gateway chassis cover. (See th e “R eplac ing th e Chass is Cover” section on page A12.)
Step 11 Power on the universal gate way. If error messages relating to memory a re di splayed , remo ve th e SDRAM
DIMM and reinstall it, taking care to seat the DIMM firmly in its socket.
Replacing Flash Memory SIMMs
The system board contains three sockets for 5V Flash memory SIMMs (see FigureA-3):
•The first two Flash memory sockets hold S I M M s co n tai ni n g t he C isco IOS software image. Cisco
recommends that you install the first SIMM into the first Flash memory socket. (Socket 0 in
Figure A-3.) For future expansion , install the second SIMM in th e second Flash memory socket. T he
SIMMs are 32 MB, and the capa cit y of b o th SI M Ms must match.

For system memory, the total capaci ty is 64 MB (two, 32 MB SI M Ms).
