Identifying a Rollover Cable
You can identify a rollover cable by comparing th e t wo modular ends of the cable. H ol di ng t he cables
side-by-side, with the tab at the back, the wir e c onn ect ed to th e pin on th e ou tsi de of th e left plug s hou ld
be the same color as the wire co nnec ted to the pin on the outside o f th e r ig h t p lug. ( S ee F i gur e C-1.) If
your cable was purchased from Cisco Systems, pin 1 will be white on one connector, and pin 8 will be
white on the other connector (a rollover cable reverses pins 1 and 8, 2 and 7, 3 and 6, and 4 and 5).

Console Port Cables and Pinouts
Use the RJ-45-to-RJ-45 rollover cable a nd RJ-45-to-DB-9 female DTE ad apter (labeled TERMINAL) to
connect the console p ort to a PC running te rminal emulation so ftware. Figure C-2 sh ows how to connect
