Putthe bladein the in-rippositionbetween the
motorand the column. Release the yoke lock
handleand pivot the yoke tothe left,with the yoke
pivotlatchon the rightside ofthe arm. (Use the
out-rip position only for rips 12 in. or more in
width; pivot the yoketo the right so the motor
is between the blade and column.)
Loosenthe carriagelock knob. Place the bladethe
rightdistancefrom the fence for the cutand lock
theknob.
Cut akerr. Turn the saw on with the switchon the
arm. Lowerthe blade about 1/16 in. into the tableto
cut a shallow groove. Turn the saw off and remove
the yellow key.
Position the workpiece against the blade, from the
front of the table. Lower the hold-down in front of
theblade to just clear the workpiece. (For a bevel
rip cut, place theworkpiece directlyunder the
guard rather than beside the blade.)
Loosenthe pawls and rivingknife. Lower the riving
knifeto the table. Slidethe workpieceback and
lower the pawls so that one setrests on the work-
piece.Lock the riving knifeand pawlsin place. (For
abevel ripcut, place the workpiece under the
lower set of pawls.)
Removethe workpiecefrom the table. Set the push
block,featherboard, or pushsticknearby.
Set uptable extension(s)and supports.
WARNING: Never use a person to support
mworkpieces.This can cause kickback and
seriousinjury. Never havesomeone standat the
ouffeed side.
MAKING A RIP CUT

Do not make a dp cut without following all the setup
stepsin the previous procedure.
After the saw has been set up, insert the yellow
key, andturn the saw on with the switchon the
arm. Letthe blade build up to full speed.
Stand at the infeed side of the blade and out of the
line of the workpiece, in case kickback occurs.
_. WARNING: Never standdirectly in the lineof
cut. Stand to the side to reduce the chance of
injury shouldkickback occur. Start and finish the
cutfrom the infeed side.
With thehand closest to the fence, push the
workpieceunder the hold down and into the blade.
Keepyour other hand onthe table and steady the
workpieceagainstthe fence. Keep that hand at
least8 in. fromthe blade.
Ifthe blade cover does notautomaticallyrise as
the workpiecemoves from the infeed to the out-
feed side,stop the cut. Turnoff the saw and adjust
theblade cover so it rests on the workpiece.
When the end of the workpieceis still several
inchesfrom the blade, pick up the cuttingaid you
selectedearlier. Pushthe wood with the pushstick
orpushblock ratherthan your hand.
,_ WARNING: Use a pushstickas the end ofthe
workpiecenears the blade to reduce the risk of
injury.
Pushthe woodcompletely throughthe blade to the
outfeed,past the pawls.
When the work iscompleted, pressthe switch off
andremove the key.
