SECURE THE SAW. Firmly belt the saw to the leg
standto keepthe saw from tipping, walking, or
sliding.
DO NOT SET UP WORK WITH THE BLADE
SPINNING. Keep the saw power off until you are
readyto useit.
RIP ONLY WORKPIECES LONGER THAN THE
BLADE'S DIAMETER. Never ripa piece of wood
that is shorterthan the diameter of the blade.
NEVER LOWER AN UNLOCKED REVOLVING
CUTTING TOOL. Always lockthe carriage lock
knobbefore lowering the blade.
SHUT OFF THE POWER TO FREE A JAMMED
GUARD. Press the switchoff before putting your
handsnear the blade. Wait forthe bladeto stop,
then freethe guard.
LOCK THE SAW BEFORE MOVING IT. Secure
the radial arm with the arm lockknob. Secure the
carriage withthe carriage lock knob.
POSITION THE WORKPIECE WITH THE FIN-
ISHED SIDE DOWN. Ifthe anti-kickback pawls
catchthe wood to stopkickback, they could mar
thetop surface or cause splintering.
POSlI_ION THE WORKPIECE SO NO ONE MUST
STAND IN LINE WITH THE BLADE. if kickbackor
climboccurs, a helper,operator, or observer in the
sawblade path could be seriously injured.
POSITION THE CUT SO THE WASTE PART
FALLS OFF. Never use a lengthstop on the free
end ofthe workpiece. Never apply force tothe free
end or hold it while the sawblade is rotating.
_i, WARNING: Inaripcut, holdingthe cut-off edge
behindthe blade can cause the cut edges to
pinch,riskingkickback, tt could cause the blade
to climbover the front edge of the woodand
contactyour hand.
BEFORE STARTING EACH CUT, check that no
playexists in the carriage. Be sure the arm, yoke
and bevel locks and clamps are tight.Verify the
blade, all handles,blade washers, and blade nuts
are secure.
BEFORE MAKING A CUT, test the upperand
lowerblade guards for free movement up and
down. Positionthe nose ofthe guard to just clear
theworkpiece.
AVOID KICKBACK AND POSSIBLE INJURY by
preventingheeling, grabbing, and pinching.
BEFORE CUTTING, position and tighten the blade
guardand anti-kickbackpawls. Test the pawlsto
make sure they would stop kickbackif it started.
Keepthe pointssharp.
KEEP THE SAW BLADE PATH CLEAR. Position
thesaw to allowenough room on all sides so
neitherthe operator nor a visitorstands in line with
thesawblade.
AVOID HEELING by adjusting the saw blade so it
exactlyparallels the fence duringripping opera-
tions.
AVOID GRABBING in rip mode by keeping the
saw bladecorrectly adjusted and by feeding the
workfrom the infeed side (opposite the anti-
kickbackpawls).
AVOID PINCHING byusing arivingknife and
sharpsaw blade. Keep the work positionedfirmly
againstthe fence.
USE IN-RIP WHENEVER POSSIBLE byposition-
ingthe work so the blade is between (inside)the
columnand the motor.
'NEVER ADJUST GUARD, PAWLS, OR BLADE
WITHOUT DISCONNECTING THE POWER.
Alwaysturn off the switchand unplug the cord
before freeinga jammed blade, tighteninga loose
blade,or repositioningthe guard or pawls.
_k CAUTION: Donot turn the motor switch on and
offrapidly. This can loosen the sawblade.
NEVER CUT MORE THAN ONE PIECE OF
WOOD AT A TIME. The feed will be uneven and
couldcause the blade to pick up one or more
pieces andcause seriousinjury.
TURN OFF SAW IF A STRANGE NOISE OR
HEAVY VIBRATION OCCURS. Immediately turn
offthe saw, locate the source, and correctthe
problembefore using the saw further.
POSITION THE CUT SO THE BLADE WILL NOT
EXTEND BEYOND THE EDGE OF THE TABLE.
KEEP THE GUARDS IN PLACE AND THE WORK
SURFACE CLEAR DURING A CUT. Smallobjects
orwood sliverscan ricochet from the blade into the
fenceand back toward the operator. If the blade
loosensslivers, remove them witha stick,not your
hand.
IN A RIP CUT, DO NOT LET GO OF THE WORK-
PIECE UNTIL THE CUT IS COMPLETE. When the
workpieceis fed intothe blade, pushthe workplace
allthe way past the blade.
