MAKING A BEVEL CUT
See Figure 44.
This procedure makes a cutwith the blade andmotor
angled and thearm straight(90" to fence). Ifthere is
noked, follow the steps to make one. Try thiscut on
scrap wood before cutting yourworkpiece.
_k WARNING: Make sure the blade guardis
loweredand isworking properlyto prevent
possibleinjury. Always raise the clearplastic
guard before changingthe bevel or loweringthe
bladeto avoid damage tothe guard.
_l, WARNING: Keepone hand on the handle until
the bladestops rotating to prevent the riskof
injury.
Putthe fence in the front position(next tothe front
table) and tightenthe table clamps.
Check thatthe controlcut deviceis set for the
correct speed forthe type ofwood and cutyou are
planning.Refer to thechart on the labeland adjust
thethumbwheel on the handle accordingly.
Ifthe yoke is not in the crosscut position withthe
bladeparallel to the arm, release the yoke lock
handleand position the yoke correctlywith the yoke
pivot latchon the rightsideof the arm.
Ifthe armis too low or too high,first liftthe blade
guardif the arm istoo low, and turn the elevating
handwheelat the frontof the table..Set the blade to
justclear the kerr or table.
Ifthe arm is angled, release the arm lock knob on
topof the arm, position itstraightahead and lock
thearm lockknob.
Ifthe blade is in frontof the fence, loosenthe
carriage lockknob on the left side of the arm.
Release the switchtrigger on the handle and let the
carriage returnto the beck.
To set the bladeangle, first raise the plastic lower
guard.Release thebevel lock lever, and position
theblade with the bevel index lever. Retightenthe
bevel locklever.
Note: For a45" or 90"angle, the bevel indexlever will
seat automaticallyatthe presetpositive stop
positions.For any other angle, use the bevel
locklever.
Ifthere isno kerf, cut one approximately 1/16 in.
deep. Grasp the handle and turnthe sew on with
theswitch on the arm. Squeeze the switchtrigger
onthe handle andpull the blade forward across the
table to make the kerr.
Release the switchtriggerand let the carriage
returnto the back. Turnthe saw off with the switch
onthe arm but hold the handleuntil the bladestops
rotating.Adjustthe height with the elevating
handwheelso the blade will rotatefreely in the ked.
Positionthe workpieceagainst the fence. Placethe
pawlsand riving knifeto clear the workpiece orthe
fence, whicheveris higher, by at least 1/4 inch.
Grasp the handlewith one hand. With the other
hand,turn the saw on, then holdthe workpiece
downand against the fence. Keep yourhand well
away from theblade.
Squeeze the switchtrigger on the handleand pull
theblade throughthe workpiece but only far
enoughto complete the cut. Keep your hand on the
handle,even after the cut has been made and the
saw turnedoff, until the blade stopsrotating.
Aftercompletingthe cut,move the workpieceto the
sideand turn off the saw withthe switchon the
arm. Release the switchtrigger on the handleand
letthe blade move beck behind the fence. Do not
releasethe handle until the blade stopsrotating.
