MAKING A COMPOUND CROSS CUT
See Figure 45.
In thiscut, both the blade and thearm are angled. Be
familiarwith both bevel and miter cuts before making
a compound cut. Practice on scrap wood.
_l, WARNING: Make sure the bladeguard is
loweredand isworking properly to prevent
possibleinjury.Always raise theclear plastic
guardbefore changing the bevel or loweringthe
bladeto avoid damage tothe guard.
_l, WARNING: Keep one hand onthe handle until
the blade stops rotatingto prevent the riskof
injury.
Putthe fence in the front position (next to thefront
table)and tightenthe table clamps.
Checkthat the controlcut device is set for the
correctspeed for the type of woodand cut you are
planning.Refer to the charton the labeland adjust
thethumbwheel on the handle accordingly.
Ifthe yoke isnot in the crosscut position with the
bladeparallel to the arm, release the yoke lock
handleand position the yoke correctlywith the yoke
pivotlatchon the rightside of the arm.
Ifthe arm istoo low or too high,first liftthe blade
guardif the arm is too low,and turnthe elevating
handwheelat the front of the table. Set the blade to
justclear the kerror table.
To sat the angle of the arm, release the arm lock
knobon top of the arm. Use the miter scale above
thecolumn to position itto the desiredangle, and
lockthe armlook knob.
To setthe blade angle, firstraise the plasticlower
guard.Release the bevel lock lever, and position
theblade with the bevel index lever.
Retightenthe bevellock lever.
Note: Fora 45" or 90" angle, the bevel index lever will
seat automaticallyat the presetpositive stop
positions. Forany other angle, use the bevel
locklever.
Ifthe yoke is infront of the fence, loosen the
carriage lockknobon the leftside of the arm.
Release the switchtrigger on the handleand let the
carriagereturn to the back.
Ifthere isno kerr,cut one approximately 1/t6 in.
deep.Grasp the handle. Turnthe saw on withthe
switchon the arm. Squeeze the switchtriggerand
pullthe blade forward to make the kerf.
Release the switchtdggerand let the carriage
returnto the beck.Turn the saw off withthe switch
onthe arm but hold the handleuntil the blade stops
rotating.Adjustthe height withthe elevating
handwheelso the blade will rotatefreely in the kerr.
Positionthe workpieceagainst the fence. Place the
pawlsand rivingknife toclear the workpiece or the
fence, whicheveris higher, by at least 1/4 inch.
Graspthe handle Withone hand. With the other
hand,turn the saw on, then hold the workplece
downand against the fence• If necessary,slightly
raisethe outerblade guard for clearance. Keep
yourhand well away from the blade.
Squeeze the switchtriggerand pullthe blade
throughthe workpiece but onlyfar enough to
completethe cut. Keep yourhand on the handle,
evenafter the cut has been made and the saw
turnedoff, until the blade stops rotating.
Aftercompletingthe cut, move the workpiece to the
sideand turn offthe saw with the switchon the
arm. Release the switchtriggerand let the yoke
moveback behind the fence. Do not release the
handleuntil the blade stops rotating.
