7Ensure that the SCSI controller card is firmly seated in its connector. See "Installing an Expansion Card" on page 72.

8Ensure that the tape drive's data and power cables are properly connected to the tape drive and SCSI controller card.

9Close the system. See "Closing the System" on page 47.

10Reconnect the system to its electrical outlet and turn on the system, including attached peripherals.

11If the problem is not resolved, see the documentation for the tape drive for additional troubleshooting instructions.

12Reinstall the tape backup software as instructed in the tape backup software documentation.

13If you cannot resolve the problem, see "Getting Help" on page 121 for information on obtaining technical assistance.

Troubleshooting a Hard Drive

Problem

NOTICE: This troubleshooting procedure can destroy data stored on the hard drive. Before you proceed, back up all files on the hard drive.

1Run the appropriate online diagnostics test. See "Using Dell PowerEdge Diagnostics" on page 111. Depending on the results of the diagnostics test, proceed as needed through the following steps.

2If your system has a SAS RAID controller, perform the following steps.

aRestart the system and press <Ctrl><R> to enter the host adapter configuration utility program.

See the documentation supplied with the host adapter for information about the configuration utility.
