Le radio ad onde corte ad alte prestazioni, tipo la Grundig G4000A, dispongono di una funzione detta SSB, ovvero un metodo estremamente efficiente di trattamento elettronico dei segnali in trasmissione e ricezione ai fini delle comunicazioni bidirezionali. Tra gli esempi spiccano le comunicazioni dei radioamatori, marittime ed aeronautiche. Si può usare sia la banda laterale superiore (USB o upper side band) che quella inferiore (LSB o lower side band).

La ricezione dei segnali SSB non è sempre facile. Visto che si tratta di una comunicazione bidi- rezionale, le trasmissioni sono spesso molto brevi e sporadiche. Inoltre, la maggior parte delle trasmis- sioni avviene ad una potenza relativamente bassa, da 50 a 1000 watt. I radioamatori sono i più facili da trovare; mentre sintonizzarsi sulle altre trasmis- sioni può risultare molto difficile. I segnali sono inoltre influenzati dal ciclo undicennale delle mac- chie solari. Le comunicazioni sono state scadenti fino a tutto il 1996. Da allora sono migliorate pro- gressivamente fino a tutto il 2002 quando la ricezione è risultata eccellente. Le condizioni favorevoli dovrebbero continuare fino al 2005.

La ricerca dei segnali SSB è difficile quanto quella di un ago nel pagliaio, perciò bisogna armarsi di pazienza! Per ottenere i migliori risultati, conviene cominciare di notte nella banda per radioamatori indicata sotto, tra i 3700 ed i 4000 KHz.

ATTIVAZIONE DELLA

FUNZIONE SSB

1.Far scorrere l'interruttore SSB (posto sul lato destro della radio) nella posizione ON.

2.Usare il pulsante STEP per selezionare passi di sintonia da 1 KHz. La dicitura STEP 1 viene visualizzata sull'angolo inferiore destro del display.

3.Collocare la manopola di comando FINE TUNING (sul lato destro della radio) nella posizione centrale.

4.Usare la manopola di comando FINE TUNING per conseguire la sintonia fine dei segnali.

Seguono alcune gamma selezionate di frequenze usate per le comunicazioni SSB. Tutte le frequenze sono espresse il kilohertz.
