OPERATION
TransomAngle (Cruising)
O.K.
CORRECT
GIVES MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE
Excessivetransom angle during
operation cancause propeller
ventilationand overheating.
For rough water conditions or large
waves,slow down to prevent the
propellerf rom rising out of the water.
For best fuel economy, limit the
throttle opening to 80%. Use the
throttle friction control (p. ) to
help you holda steady speed.
When cruising into a high wind,
decrease the transom angle slightly to
level the boat and improve stability.
With a tail wind, increase the
transom angle slightly.
Under normal running conditions, the
boat willperf orm best whenthe
antiventilation plate is level with the
water surface.
It is necessary to adjust the transom
angleto compensate f or changesin
boat load,weight distribution, water
conditions,or propeller selection.
Transomangle too small: Causes
boat to ‘‘bowsteer.’’
Transomangle too large: Causes boat
to ‘‘squat’’.
Installthe outboard motor at the best
transomangle f or stablecruising and
maximumpower. See page for
adjustmentprocedure.
