BEFORE OPERATION.
To prevent damage to the motor o r
boat, make sure the transom angle
adjusting bolt is tight.
To safely realize the full potential of
thisoutboard motor, you need a
completeunderstanding of its
operationand a certain amount of
practice with its controls.
Before operating the outboard motor
for the first time, please review the
on page and the
chapter titled
For your safety, do not start or run
the enginein a conf ined or partly
enclosedarea. Your engine’s exhaust
containspoisonous carbon monoxide,
a colorless,odorless gas that can
collectrapidly. Breathing carbon
monoxidecan cause loss of
consciousness and may lead to death.
Proper break-inprocedure allows the
moving partsto wear in smoothly for
bestperf ormanceand long service
life.
For thef irst 10 hours, run the
outboardmotor at low speed, and
avoid full-throttle operation.
The transomangle adjusting bolt is
used to adjustthe angle of the
outboardmotor in the normal
operating position (p. ).
To adjust, first tilt the outboard
motor so it is not resting on the
bolt.
There are four adjustment
positions.
Loosen the wing nut to free the
adjusting bolt.
Adjust the angle of the motor, and
tightenthe wing nut. Be sure that
the bolt head and wing nut are
seatedin one of the four
adjustmentpositions.
