Lifting the outboard motor by the
enginecover, or using the installed
outboard motor as a handle or lever
to move the boat, can damage the
outboard motor.
Storethe outboard motor either
vertically or horizontally with the
tiller handle side up.
After draining is completed,
tighten the carburetor drain screw
and turn the fuel valve lever to the
OFF position.
Removethe spark plug (p. ),
and remove the emergency stop
switch clip from the emergency
stop switch.
Withthe engine stopped, turn the
vent knob counterclockwiseto
open thef uel vent, and then
remove the fuel filler cap.
Loosen the carburetor drain screw
and move thef uel valve lever to
the ON position to drain the
carburetor and the fuel tank into an
approvedgasoline container.
Install the fuel filler cap and turn
the vent knob clockwiseto close
the fuel vent.
Change theengine oil (p.
).
Pour 1 2 teaspoons(5 10 cm)
of clean engine oil intothe
cylinder.
To carrythe outboard motor, hold it
by the carryinghandle, as shown.
If your fuel tank contains gasoline,
storeit away f rom any appliance that
operates with a flame, such as a
furnace, water heater, or clothes
dryer.Also avoid any area with a
spark-producingelectric motor, or
wherepower tools are operated.
Reinstall the spark plug (p. ).
Pull the starter grip several times
to distributethe oil in the cylinder.
Select a well-ventilated storage area.
If possible, avoid storage areaswith
high humidity.
