Appendix B. Problem solving

Appendix B. Problem solving

Computer problems can be caused by hardware, software, or user error. Using the information in this section, you might be able to solve problems yourself or gather helpful information that you can pass on to a service technician. You might also need to refer to your computer, operating-system, or sound-adapter documentation.

Review the following list for any problem description that might fit your situation.

Transporting data with DVD-RAM Media

DVD-RAM Media can be read on any IBM DVD-ROM drive which has RAM-read compatibility, but certain requirements must be satisfied. Your system either must have a 2.0 compliant UDF reader or you must finalize the media before it can be read.

If you do not have a 2.0 compliant UDF reader:

After data is written to the DVD-RAM media, it must be finalized before it can be read in an IBM DVD-ROM with RAM-read drive. Finalizing the media does not prevent the user to write more data. The DVD-RAM media may be finalized more than once. It is impossible for the IBM DVD-ROM with RAM-read drive to read the media which has not been finalized.

If you have a 2.0 compliant UDF reader:

Unfinalized DVD-RAM media can be read.

Obtaining a 2.0 compliant UDF reader:

Free third party UDF reader software, such as VOB InstantRead, can be downloaded from http://www.vob.de/us/Downloads.htm

Third party software is not supported by IBM. Use at your own risk with no warranties expressly written or implied.

vYour computer or DVD-ROM drive does not operate correctly, or the busy indicator light does not come on.

Take the following actions:

1.Check that the disc is loaded with the label side up.

2.Check that all devices are properly connected to the computer and to the electrical outlet.
