How do I format a diskette? Shutting down your system with a diskette in the diskette drive can damage the data on your diskette and your diskette drive. You should remove the diskette before powering off.

How do I format a diskette?

What type of diskette do I use in my diskette drive? In Windows 98, Windows 95 or Windows NT, double click on the My Computer icon and then right click (click the right-hand mouse button) on the diskette drive icon. Select Format and choose the format process that best suits your needs.

To format high density 1.44-MB diskettes - In DOS, type format a: and press Enter. If you want a bootable diskette, type format a:/s and press Enter.
