Installation and Configuration Guide | Installing a standby BlackBerry Enterprise Server |
Installing a standby BlackBerry 7 Enterprise Server
To configure the BlackBerry Enterprise Server for high availability and disaster recovery, you install a standby BlackBerry Enterprise Server on a separate computer from your organization's primary BlackBerry Enterprise Server. During the installation process, you assign a standby BlackBerry Enterprise Server to a primary BlackBerry Enterprise Server. You can assign only one standby BlackBerry Enterprise Server to each primary BlackBerry Enterprise Server. The setup application assigns the SRP credentials of the primary BlackBerry Enterprise Server to the standby BlackBerry Enterprise Server automatically.
When you install a standby BlackBerry Enterprise Server, you can install the same BlackBerry Enterprise Server components that are installed on the primary BlackBerry Enterprise Server, or different components. For example, you might want to install additional components with the standby BlackBerry Enterprise Server if you want to use the system resources on the computer to distribute the performance load.
You cannot change a primary BlackBerry Enterprise Server to a standby BlackBerry Enterprise Server by running the setup application again.
By default, the standby BlackBerry Enterprise Server enables you to fail over the following components if they stop responding on the primary BlackBerry Enterprise Server:
•BlackBerry Attachment Service
•BlackBerry Collaboration Service
•BlackBerry Dispatcher
•BlackBerry MDS Connection Service
•BlackBerry Messaging Agent
•BlackBerry Policy Service
•BlackBerry Router
•BlackBerry Synchronization Service
After you complete the installation process, the setup application does not start all the services for the standby BlackBerry Enterprise Server components. For example, the setup application does not start the BlackBerry Mail Store Service, BlackBerry Synchronization Service, or BlackBerry Policy Service. The failover process starts the services when the standby BlackBerry Enterprise Server promotes itself.
