The 1.5° fall provided by the elbow is to allow condensate to run back to the boiler, for discharge through the condensate disposal system.

For every 1m of horizontal flue length, the clearance above the top of the flue elbow should be 27.5mm to incorporate the 1.5° fall in the flue from the terminal to the elbow. It is especially important to consider this when fitting the boiler under a work top !
