SECTION 5

CONFIGURATION OPTIONS

General Information

This section describes each of the parameters of the General Configuration Options that the user can select to adapt the ULTRA to the user’s specific environment.

Configuring the ULTRA changes the way in which it handles the data stream from the coax host or alternate host before the data is sent to the printer or plotter. The configuration option parameters allow the user to change printer output, page formatting, host parameters, transparency modes, etc. Under many circumstances, the ULTRA configuration will not have to be modified, because it is already set up for the most common environments.

Before changing any of the configuration settings, the user should print a General Configuration Report that will display the current settings. A General Configuration Report can be generated by pressing the TEST button on the front panel of the ULTRA when the unit is in normal operating mode. A sample report can be found in the Appendix.

The most critical part of configuring the ULTRA is correctly choosing the output settings. If the user’s printer or alternate host operates in serial mode, refer to Section 3 — Dip Switch Settings before continuing.

Besides the limited number of functions determined by the dip switch settings, there are three ways to configure the options of the ULTRA. They can be configured from the ULTRA front panel with some limitations, or they can be configured from the coax host or from an alternate host. Each of the three methods of configuring the ULTRA is described in a subsequent section.

The easiest method of changing the ULTRA options is from the front panel, but some variables cannot be selected. Programmable function strings (PFSs) and translate tables are editable only from the coax host or from an alternate host.
