ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) Table Configuration
ARP Overview
IP logical network addresses are independent of physical addresses. Since the
physical address must be used to convey data in the form of a frame from one
device to another, a mechanism is required to acquire a destination device hardware
address from its IP address. This mechanism/ability is called ARP (Address
Resolution Protocol).
The following mechanism describes how a station builds an ARP Table:

Station 1 sends ARP Request
Broadcast, specifying IP address of
Station 2
Station 2 receives the broadcast
and identifies its IP address
Station 2 sends an ARP Reply to
Station 1 containing Station 2 MAC
Address
Station 2 updates its ARP table
with the Station 1 address mapping
