Communication with terminal program

Data terminal

If a VIP X2 cannot be found in the network or the connection to the network is interrupted, you can connect a data terminal to the VIP X2 for initial setup and setting of important parameters. The data terminal consists of a computer with a terminal program.

You require a serial transmission cable with a 9-pin Sub-D connector to connect to the computer and open ends for connection to the terminal plug of the VIP X2 (pin assignment see page 127).

HyperTerminal, a communications accessory included with Microsoft Windows, can be used as the terminal program.

Note

Information on installing and using HyperTerminal can be found in the manuals or in the online help for MS Windows.

Disconnect the VIP X2 from the Ethernet network before working with the ter- minal program.

Connect the serial interface of the VIP X2 using any available serial interface on the computer.

Configuring the terminal

Before the terminal program can communicate with the VIP X2, the transmission parameters must be matched. Make the following settings for the terminal pro- gram:

19,200 bit/s

8 data bits

No parity check

1 stop bit

No protocol
