5.1.8 Check for loose hardware.
Service Interval : Dai l y
a) Stop engine, wait for all moving par t s to stop, and rem o ve k ey.
b) Visually inspect machine for any loose hardware or any other possible
problem. Tighten hardware or cor r ect the problem bef ore operating.
5.1.9 Service air cleaner.
Service Interval: 50 hrs.
More often under severe condit i ons.
See Engine manual for addi t i onal i nf ormat ion.
a) Stop engine, wait for all moving parts to stop, and r em ove key.
b) Loosen retaining clips and r em ove air cleaner com par tment cover.
c) Remove paper element. Check the condition of the paper element.
Replace if dir t y, bent or damaged.
d) All units except 17HP Kaw asaki: Check the condition of the inner element.
Replace whenever it appears dirty, typically every other time the paper
element is replaced. Clean the base around the inner elem ent before
removing, so dir t does not get int o t he engine.
e) DO NOT wash or use pressur ized air to clean paper element or inner element.
f) Reinstall elements. Position the cover so that the r ubber dust ejector is
pointing downward and secure with retaining clips.
5.1.10 Change engine oil:
Service Interval: 100 hrs.
NOTE: Change oil and filter after first five (5) hrs. of operation
a) Stop engine, wait for all moving par t s to stop, and rem o ve k ey.
b) Drain oil while engine is warm f rom operation.
c) Oil drain valve is located on left hand side of Kohler eng ine and right hand
side of Kawasaki eng ine. Place pan under machine to cat ch oil and open
valve with 10 mm wrench. Allow oil to drain then close valve.
d) Replace the oil f ilter every other oil change. Clean around oil filter and
unscrew filter t o r em ove. Before r einst alling new filter, apply a thin coating of
oil on the surface of t he r ubber seal. Tur n filter clockwise until rubber seal
contacts t he filter adapt er then tighten filter an addit ional 2/ 3 t o 3/4 turn.
e) Clean around oil f ill cap and r emove cap. Fill to specif ied capacit y and replace
cap. Use oil recomm ended in engine owner’s manual. DO NOT overfill.
f) Start t he engine and check for leak s. Stop engine and recheck oil level.
5.1.11 Check hydraulic oil level:
Service Interval: 40 hr.
a) Stop eng ine and wait for all moving parts to stop.
b) Clean area around hydraulic reser voir cap and r em ove cap.
c) Oil level should be to the top of the baffle inside t he t ank. If not add oil. Use
only Mobil 1 15W-50 synthetic motor oil. Replace hydraulic reservoir cap
and tight en unt il snug. Do not overtighten.
NOTE: The baffle is labeled “HOT” and “COLD” . The oil level varies with the
temperature of the oil. The “ HO T” level shows the level of oil when it is at
225°F (107°C). The “COLD” level shows the level of the oil when it is at 75°F
(24°C). Fill t o t he appr opriate level depending upon the t emperature of the oil.
For example: If the oil is about 150° F (65°C), fill to halfway between the “HOT
and “COLD” levels. I f the oil is at r oom temperat ure (about 75° F ( 24° C) ) , fill
only to the “COLD” level.
