7. TROUBLE SHOOTING

7.1 MOWER PULLS LEFT OR RIGHT (W/LEVERS FULLY FORWARD).

a) Refer t o Tracking Adjustment Sect ion 4. 1.3.
b) Check air pr essur e in drive tires; 13 psi.
Semi-pneumatic casters do not require inflat ion.
c) Check reverse indicat or and motion control linkage adj ust m ent. See
Section 5.2.10 and 5. 2.11.

7.2 MOWER CUTS UNEVENLY.

a) Check air pr essur e in drive tires; 13 psi.
Semi-pneumatic caster s do not r equire inf lat ion.
A more uniform cutt ing height m ay be obtained with higher t ir e pr essure on
rough t er r ain. A lower tire pressure provides mor e flotation.
b) Check deck support chains.
c) Check deck leveling (See Adjustments Section 5.2.2.)
Note: T he front of the m ower deck will be approximately 1/4” ( 6.4 mm)
lower than the back of the mower deck. This is the “r ake” of the deck.
d) Check blades t ip t o t ip for str aightness (they should be within 3/16" (4. 8
mm) or one blade width from being in line.)

7.3 ENGINE WILL NOT START.

a) Make sure battery is at a full char ge.
b) Be sure t he t hrottle control is midway between the “SLOW” and “FAST ”
positions, and the choke is in the “O N” posit ion for a cold eng ine or the
“OFF” posit ion for a warm eng ine.
c) Make sure there is fuel in the fuel tank and t hat the fuel valve is open.
d) Be sure t he seat switch is proper ly adjust ed. See Section 5.2.5.
e) Make sure the par king brake is set and motion cont r ol levers ar e m oved
out (neutr a l lock position).
f) Check that the PTO is diseng aged.
h) Check t hat the spark plug wires are pr oper ly connected.
i) Check for loose or faulty wiring connections.
j) Check for corrosion at all wiring connect ions. Even minor cor rosion may
cause a fault y connection. Clean connector terminals thoroughly with
electrical contact cleaner , apply dielectric grease and r econnect .
NOTE: When disconnecting el ect ri cal connectors DO NOT pul l on the w i res
to separate the connectors.
NOTE: Af t er caref ully checking the above steps, attempt to start t he engi ne. If
it does not start , contact your authorized Exmark service dealer.
IMPORTANT: It is essential t hat al l operator safety mechanisms be
connected and in proper operating condi t ion prior to mower use.
When a problem occurs, do not overlook the simple causes. For example,
starting pr oblems could be caused by an empty fuel tank.
The following table lists some of the common causes of trouble. Do not attempt
to service or replace ma j or items or any items t hat call for special t im ing of
adjustment s pr ocedur es (such as valves, governor, etc.) . Have this work done
by your Engine Service Dealer.
