Chapter 5: Console Management

NOTE: If you are not familiar with console command or the related parameter, enter "help" anytime in console to get the help description.

You can change these settings, if desired, after you log on. This management method is often preferred because you can remain connected and monitor the system during system reboots. Also, certain error messages are sent to the serial port, regardless of the interface through which the associated action was initiated. A Macintosh or PC attachment can use any terminal-emulation program for connecting to the terminal serial port. A workstation attachment under UNIX can use an emulator such as TIP.

Commands Level

The following table lists the CLI commands and description.

User EXEC	Begin a session with	switch>
	your switch.

Privileged	Enter the enable
	command while in	switch#
EXEC
	User EXEC mode.

Global	Enter the configure
	command while in	switch
Configuration	privileged EXEC	(config)#
	mode.

Exit Method

Enter logout or quit.

Enter disable to exit.

To exit to privileged EXEC mode, enter exit or end

About This Model

The user commands available at the user level are a subset of those available at the privileged level.

•Display system information.

The privileged command is the advanced mode.

•Display advanced function status

•Save configuration

Use this mode to configure those parameters that are going to be applied to your switch.
