EnforcementAct requires the Governor of
Californiato publish alist of substances known to
the stateto cause cancer, birth defects or other
reproductiveh- and requires businesses to warn
customersof potential exposure to such substances.
Gasappliances can cause minor exposure to
four of these substances, namely benzene,
carbon monoxide, fommldehyde and SOOLcaused
primarily by the incomplete combustion of natural
gas or LP fuels. Properly adjusted burners,
indicated by abluish rather than ayellow flame,
will minimize incomplete combustion. Exposure
to these substances can be minimized further by
venting with an open window or using a
ventilation fan or hood.

When You Get Your Component

Cooktop System

Haveyour cooktop installed and properly
groundedby aqualified installer in accordance
with the Installation Instructions. Any adjustment
andservice should be performed only by qualified
gas and electric appliance installers or service
technicians.
Have theinstaller show you the location of the
circuitbreaker or fuse Mark it for easy reference.
Havetheinstaller show you the locationof

thegas cut-offvalveandhowto shutit off

ifnecessary.

For Your Safety

When using the component cooktop system, basic
safetyprecautions should be followed, including
the following:
Usethis cooktop system only for its intended
use asdescribed in this guide.
cIfthe cooktop is located near awindow, do not
use long curtains, which could blow over the gas
burnersor surface units, creating afire hazard.
Do not attempt to repair or replace any part
of the cooktop system unless it is specifically
recommended in this guide. Any adjustment
and service should be performed only by qualified
electric and gasrange installers or service
technicians.
Before performing any service, DISCONNECT
THE COOKTOP SYSTEM POWER SUPPLY
ATTHE HOUSEHOLD DISTRIBUTION
PANELBY REMOVING THE FUSE OR
SWITCHING OFF THE CIRCUIT BREAKER.
Do not leave children alone-children should
not be left alone or unattended in an area where an
appliance is in use. They should never be allowed
to sit or stand on anypart of the cooktop system.
Avoidinstalling cabinets above the cooktop
system.To reduce the hazard caused by
reachinginto cabinets over hot surface units,
theopen flames of operating burners and hot
cookware,install ametal ventilation hood over
the cooktopcomponents that projects forward
at least5inches beyond the front of the cabinets.
If cabinets are placed above the cooktop
components,allow aminimum clearance
of 30 inches betweenthe cooking surface
and the bottom of unprotected cabinets.
CAUTION: ITEMS OF INTEREST TO
CHILDREN SHOULD NOT BE STORED
IN CABINETSINSTALLED ABOVE THE
COOKTOP SYSTEM-CHILDREN
CLIMBING ON THE COOKTOP
SYSTEM TO REACH ITEMS COULD
BESERIOUSLY INJURED.
Neverwear loose-fitting or hanging garments
whaleusing thecooktop system. Be carefid
whenreaching for items stored in cabinets over
the cooktop system. Flammable material could
beignited if brought in contact with hot surface
unitsor gas burners and may cause severe bums.
Useonly dry pot holders- moist or damp pot
holderson hot surfaces may result in burns from
steam.Do not let pot holders touch the hot surface
unitsor gas burners and grates. Do not use atowel
orother bulky cloth in place of apot holder.
Foryour safety, never use any electric or gas
components of the cooktop system for warming
or heating the room.
