Q. I receive hard disk error messages. What is wrong?

A. A hard disk error message is displayed when part of the hard disk has failed. The hard drive can be restored by using the ScanDisk utility.

To repair the hard disk using the ScanDisk Utility, complete the following steps:

1.Click the Start button, point to Programs, Accessories, System Tools, then click ScanDisk to open the ScanDisk dialog box.

2.Select the hard disk and any other desired options.

3.Click the Start button to begin the repair process.

Q. I receive a non-system disk or disk error message. What is wrong?

A. If you have a non-system or disk error message, check the following:

Check the diskette drive to see if you have a diskette in the drive. When drive activity stops, remove the diskette and press the Spacebar to continue the startup process.

If a diskette is not in the drive, the system files have been damaged. To repair the system files, complete the following steps:

a.Insert the startup diskette that you have created for your operating system in the diskette drive.

b.Press and hold down the Power ª button until your Notebook shuts down.

c.Press the Power ª button to restart your Notebook.

d.At the A:\ prompt, type SYS C: and press the Enter key. The following message is displayed:

‘SYSTEM TRANSFERRED’. This operation restores the system files to your hard disk.

e.When the operation is complete, restart your Notebook.
