In This Chapter
This chapter describes how to get started administering your IBMInformix
OnLine environment.
You need the following items to install your OnLine database server:
UNIX ProductsInstallation Guide
IBMInformix OnLine electronic media
IBMInformix OnLine serial number keycard
Thespecific steps that you should follow as part of your installation depend
onyour environment. To find the starting point that is right for you, refer to
page 1-6.
Installationrefers to the three-step procedure of preparing your UNIX
environment,loading the product files onto your UNIX system, and running
theinstallation script to correctly set up the product files. An overview of the
installation procedure is illustrated onpage 1-10 and described in detail in
theUNIX P roductsInstallation Guide.
Initial configuration refers to the set of values that OnLine reads and imple-
ments the first time that you initialize OnLine disk space. The initial
configuration receives special attention because of the number of adminis-
trativeissues that you must consider as you define the values for your initial
configuration.
Initial configuration tasks refers to the steps that you complete as you take
OnLineto online mode for the first time and prepare your OnLine system to
receivedata. This chapter explains each of the configuration tasks, including
how to arrive at the initial configuration values that are correct for your
OnLine environment and how to enter these values and initialize OnLine.
