Heuristic Rollback Records

Figure9-11 illustrates the writing sequence of the logical log records during

a heuristic rollback. (Refer topage 9-36 for a description of a heuristic

rollback.) Since a heuristic rollback only occurs after the participant sends a

messagethat it can commit, and the coordinator sends a message to commit,

the ﬁrst phase of this protocol is the same as that shown inFigure 9-10. In

Figure9-11, the heuristic rollback is assumed to be the consequence of a long-

transactioncondition that occurs at the Participant One (P1) OnLine database

server.Only the interactions between the coordinator and the P1 participant

are shown.
