Reliability

As outlined in the Marketing section of this sales and product guide, one of the topics covered in the Gartner Dataquest study conducted in the fall of 2000 focused on acquisition criteria for each of the digital copier segments. In Segment 1, the number ONE acquisition criterion was RELIABILITY. Reliability received a rating of 4.7 out

of a possible 5 rating! Clearly, a focal point for Segment 1 Users.

In designing the bizhub 180 many measures and steps were taken to ensure that these products delivered the reliability level Konica Minolta customers expect. Among these design implementations are:

Reliability in the Paper Feeding Section

Paper Feeding Reliability in the Fusing Section

Imaging Unit Reliability

Reliability in the Transfer Roller

DF-502 & DF-605 Reliability

CPU Watchdog Function

RELIABILITY IN THE PAPER FEEDING SECTION

The reliability of the paper feeding section is achieved by employing a two-roller system in the paper feeding section, a feeding roller and a separation roller. The use of these two rollers makes it possible for the bizhub 180 to easily handle recycled paper and

2-sided copies. The two-roller design achieves the same level of reliability as the three-roller system (pick up roller, paper feed roller and separation roller) incorporated in higher end segment machines.

In addition to the two-roller design, the bizhub 180 also incorporate an improved vertical paper transport lock system. A board spring has been added to the Vertical Paper Transport door to prevent the door from half locking. This eliminates the clicking of the JAM detecting sensor and decreases the chance of the device indicating

a JAM signal that doesn’t exist.

A third design incorporated to maintain the reliability of the Paper Feeding Section is Paper Take-Up Double Retry. When the paper is not fed correctly from the paper cassette, these devices will attempt to feed the paper up to two additional times to feed the paper again. Please note that paper take up double retry applies

to the standard multi purpose cassette. It does not apply to the single sheet bypass or optional paper cassette.
