Taking Animal and Pet Pictures

Setup Practice Picture: In figure 6.6, I was trying for a portrait type
shot that captured Clementine’s spirit and craziness.
On Your Own: Every animal has its own personality; try to bring
it out in your image. Just like when you are taking portraits of
people, you want to capture the personality of the subject as
much as possible.
Lighting Practice Picture: I used an SB-600 mounted on the camera set
to TTL. Red-eye reduction on the camera body set to on.
On Your Own:Because animals, especially dogs, are inquisitive,
I find it easier to use the Speedlight mounted on the camera’s
hot shoe, or to use the built-in Speedlight. This way I can move
with the pet instead of trying to persuade it to sit in one spot.
When using the Speedlight on camera, be sure to use red-eye
reduction to avoid the “devil-eyes.”
