Selecting a mode (Turning the unit on/off)

Rotate the mode dial to switch to recording, playback, PC connection or power OFF.

≥Rotate the mode dial slowly.

How to turn on the power

While pressing the lock release button, set the mode dial to , or PC .

≥Rotate the mode dial while at the same time pressing in the lock release button A if changing from OFF to another mode.

≥Align with the status indicator B.

The status indicator lights and the power turns on.

≥The lens cover opens in recording mode.

≥When the unit is turned on for the first time, a message asking you to set the date and time will appear. Select [YES] and set the date and time. (l 45)

How to turn off the power

Set the mode dial to OFF.

The status indicator goes off and the power turns off.

≥The lens cover closes when the mode dial is set to OFF.

Recording mode (l 50, 53)

Use this to record motion pictures on a disc and still pictures on an SD card.

Playback mode (l 74, 78)

Use this to play back motion pictures recorded on a disc and still pictures recorded on an SD card.

OFF The power turns off.

≥Do not forcefully rotate the dial.

When the power is turned on for the first time after changing the disc or battery, the unit carries out a recognition procedure to check that there are no problems with the disc. This takes approximately 25 seconds with DVD-RAM.

If you want to start using the unit as soon as you turn on the power, do the following.

1)Turn on the power.

2)After “READING DISC...” disappears from the screen, turn off the power.

You can start recording approximately

13 seconds after you turn on the power again. ≥Depending on the condition of the disc, it

may take longer than this.

≥If the date and time are not set, it will take longer than usual before you can start recording.
