Installing an SD Memory Card

This camera uses SD Memory Cards, SDHC Memory Cards or SDXC Memory Cards. Captured images are saved on the SD Memory Card if a card is inserted in the camera. They are saved in the built-in memory if a card is not inserted (p.41).

• Be sure to use this camera to format (initialize) an SD Memory Card that is unused or has been previously used on other cameras or digital devices. Refer to “Formatting the Memory” (p.167) for instructions on formatting cards.

Make sure that the camera is turned off before inserting or removing the SD Memory Card.

Allow the camera to dry completely before changing the SD Memory Card. Avoid changing the card where the camera is likely to get wet or dirty, and make sure that your hands are dry.

Do not use excessive force when sliding the battery cover open and closed because the waterproof seal may peel off. If the seal is not in the correct position, the camera will not be waterproof.

The number of still pictures that can be stored varies depending on the

capacity of the SD Memory Card and the selected number of recorded pixels and quality level (p.220).

The power lamp blinks while the SD Memory Card is being accessed (data is being recorded or read).

Backing Up Data

The camera may not be able to access data in the built-in memory in the case of a malfunction. Use a computer or other device to back up important data in another location.
