Belgian Beef Stew

6 pounds (3 kg) boneless beef stewing cubes

1 (12 oz / 350 ml) bottle beer

2 (16 oz / 450 g) packages frozen vegetables for stew 1 (14 oz / 400 ml) can beef broth

14 cup (60 ml) vinegar

14 cup (60 ml) brown sugar, packed

2 envelopes brown gravy mix

Combine all ingredients in crock. Cover and cook: Low – 10 hours OR High – 5 hours. Makes about 5 quarts (5 L).

Creamy Corn & Potato Chowder

6 (16 oz / 450 g) cans creamed corn

12 cup (125 ml) chopped onion

1 (12 oz / 350 ml) can evaporated milk

1 (14 oz / 400 ml) can chicken broth

2 cups (500 ml) water

1 (7.06 oz / 200 g) box sour cream and chive flavored, dry mashed potato mix

Combine all ingredients in crock. Stir well. Cover and cook: Low – 6 hours OR High – 3 hours. Makes about 5 quarts (5 L).

Hungarian Beef, Beans, & Barley Stew

3 pounds (1.5 kg) beef ribs, (cut for barbecue), or boneless short ribs 3 (16 oz / 450 g) cans red kidney beans, drained

2 (14 oz / 400 ml) cans beef broth

34 cup (175 ml) pearl barley

12 cup (125 ml) chopped onion

2 tablespoons (30 ml) paprika

1 teaspoon (5 ml) garlic powder

1 teaspoon (5 ml) salt

Combine all ingredients in crock. Stir well. Cover and cook: Low – 10 hours OR High – 5 hours. Makes about 5 quarts (5 L).

Chili

112 pounds (750 g) hot Italian sausage, removed from casings 112 pounds (750 g) lean ground beef

1 medium onion, chopped

2 envelopes chili seasoning mix

2 (16 oz / 450 g) cans kidney beans, drained 2 (14 oz / 400 g) cans diced tomatoes

2 (6 oz / 170 g) cans tomato paste

2 (15 oz / 400 g) cans chicken broth

Crumble sausage and ground beef into large skillet. Add onion. Over medium high heat, partially cook sausage, ground beef and onion. Place cooked meat mixture in crock. Add remaining ingredients. Cover and cook: Low – 8 hours OR High – 4 hours. Makes about 5 quarts (5 L).
