WinPM-Advanced 9000 Series MeterProgramming
The factory configuration for 9000 series meters provides all of the
monitoring, logging and control functionality you normally require.
However, the 9000 series meters can be customized to perform virtually any
power monitoring and control function. Minor changes can be made to the
factory configuration allowing your device to be better suited to the
particular metering needs of your application. This chapter explains how to
make small changes to the factory configuration using WinPM.
You should dismantle the factory configuration and replace it with your own
module links and settings to create custom functionality. Advanced
configuration should be performed by only experienced personnel. If you
want to make significant changes to the operation of the 9000 series meters,
please contact Siemens Energy & Automation Customer Service in Siemens

Basic Concepts

Before you begin altering the 9000 series meter’s operation, you must learn
the basics of how the device operates. Understanding the basics of the
architecture will help you understand how to make different types of
configuration changes.
Each 9000 series device contains a number of modules that perform specific
functions. The modules are linked together to create frameworks.
Framework defines multiple operations and logical pathways for power
system information. The basic structure of a module is the same for each
module type, making it easy to use new features once the basics are
understood.

The Module

The 9000 series module is the basic building block of the 9000 device’s
operating software. A module can be considered as a

function box:

it
receives data from its inputs, makes decisions based on the settings in its
setup registers, and then makes data available at its output registers. All
functionality provided by a 9000 series device can be considered in terms of
its modules and linkages between them.
