Media Access Control (MAC)
A portion of the networking protocol that governs access to the transmission medium, facilitating the exchange of data between network nodes.
Modal Bandwidth
Bandwidth for multimode fiber is referred to as modal bandwidth because it varies with the modal field (or core diameter) of the fiber. Modal bandwidth is specified in units of MHz per km, which indicates the amount of bandwidth supported by the fiber for a one km distance.
MTU
Multiple Tenant Units
Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS)
One of the services using voice band. Sometimes used as a descriptor for all voice band services.
Private Branch Exchange (PBX)
A telephone exchange local to a particular organization who use, rather than provide, telephone services.
