POWER-UP FUNCTIONS

In addition to their normal functions, all the control panel buttonshave special functions

that operate if you hold them down while switching power on.

Charge the optional battery pack

Theprinter can operate with the optionalNiCd battery pack when an externalpower source

is not available. Battery life varies depending on the options and the print density.

Normally,asingle chargeworks the printerfor40 minutes.Abattery chargewill takeabout

ten hours.

1. Set the battery switch on the back of the printer to the ON position.

2. Turn the Power switch on while holding down the ION jbutton.

3. The indicatorblinks while the battery is being charged.

Whenthe battery reaches anearly full charge, the indicator automaticallygoes

off (auto power off function).

CAUTION: Do not overcharge the battery pack.

Short test mode

Ifthe printeristumedon while the~I-INEFEED~buttonis pressed,theprinterwill enter the

short self-test mode. The printer will print the version number of the printer’s ROM,

followed by six lines of the character set.

Each line will be offset by one character from the one before it. The final result will be

something like Figure 4-5.
