VCF3 (FICON) Card Configuration Examples

Note: VCF3 (FICON) cards must be installed and removed in pairs. A minimum VSM5- VTSS configuration requires four VCF3 cards. Cards must be removed in the re- verse order they were installed. Although there is no mechanism to restrict or sup- port which slots VCF cards are placed in, configurations other than those shown in Figure 2-7through Figure 2-9will not be supported.

As shown in Figure 2-7, the required minimum configuration of four VCF cards provides eight physical FICON ports, and each port supports 64 host paths (512 paths total). The first four VCF3 cards must be installed in slots VCF00, VCF02, VCF10, and VCF12.
