Cleaning the magnetic head

Tips –Magnetic head cleaning card

Replace the magnetic head cleaning card when it becomes dirty. Using a dirty magnetic head cleaning card can damage the magnetic head.

When printing magnetic stripe cards, the magnetic head should be cleaned every 1,000 cards. If you are not using magnetic stripe cards, the magnetic head does not require cleaning.

Begin with the printer (and optional laminator) powered off.

1Move the RL90 laminator (if installed) away from the printer

to avoid a card jam during the cleaning process.

2Open the card hopper and

remove cards.

3Power on the printer. See

“Power on the printer” on page 15.

4 Press the MENU key until "Cleaning" is displayed.

5 Press ENTER and use the up and down arrow keys to select "MG Head."

6Place three or four drops of isopropanol on the stripe of the magnetic head cleaning card.

7 Place the magnetic head cleaning card in the card hopper in the correct orientation for the type of cards used. See “Load cards” on page 8 for proper card orientation.

8 Close the card hopper and press the ENTER key on the LCD panel.

9When the cleaning card is

discharged, power off the printer, wait ten seconds, and power back on.
