run out of recording paper. Try again.

LThe document is jammed. Remove the jammed document (page 63).

LA transmission error occurred. Try again.

UNIT OVERHEATED

LThe unit is too hot. Stop using the unit for a while and let the unit cool down.

9.3When a function does not work, check here

9.3.1 Initial settings

I cannot hear a dial tone.

LThe telephone line cord is connected to the [EXT] jack on the unit. Connect to the [LINE]

jack (page 16) (KX-FP141 only).

LIf you used a splitter to connect the unit, remove the splitter and connect the unit to the wall jack directly. If the unit operates properly, check the splitter.

LDisconnect the unit from the telephone line and connect the line to a known working telephone. If the working telephone operates properly, contact our service personnel to have the unit repaired. If the working telephone does not operate properly, contact

your telephone company.

LThe power cord or telephone line cord is not

connected. Check the connections.

LIf you connected the fax machine through a computer modem, connect the fax machine directly to a telephone line jack.

I cannot make calls.

LThe dialling mode setting is wrong. Change the setting of feature #13 (page 47).

The unit does not ring.

LThe ringer volume is turned OFF. Adjust it (page 17).

LThe TAD ring setting of feature #06 is set to “RINGER OFF”. Change to another ring setting (page 47) (KX-FP145 only).

9.3.2 General

The unit displays “CHECK PAPER” though the paper is inserted.

LThe paper is inserted halfway. Insert it correctly (page 15) and press {START} to clear the message.

The other party complains they only hear a fax tone and cannot talk.

LFAX ONLY mode is set. Tell the other party the number is only used for faxes.

LChange the receiving mode:

KX-FP141: TEL mode (page 31)

KX-FP145: TAD/FAX mode (page 32) or TEL mode (page 31)
