FRONT CASTER REPLACEMENT (FIGURE 17)

1.Remove the bolt and locknut that secure the front caster to the mounting fork.

2.Remove the front caster and axle spacers from the mounting fork.

3.Install the NEW front caster and spacers onto the mounting fork and securely tighten.

4.Repeat the procedure for the opposite front caster if necessary.

NOTE: If replacing front casters with a different size than what was originally on the chair, the front caster height MUST be adjusted to keep the chair frame parallel to the floor. Refer to ADJUSTING FRONT CASTER HEIGHT in this procedure of the manual.

REPLACEMENT

ADJUSTING FRONT CASTER HEIGHT (FIGURE 18)

NOTE: When changing a rear wheel to a different size, it becomes necessary to adjust the front caster height so the chair frame will remain parallel to the floor.

1.Place the wheelchair on a flat surface.

2.Remove the dust cover on the fork assembly.

3.Remove the locknut that secures the front caster fork to the chair frame.

4.Position a large right triangle or "L" square on the flat surface and against the caster housing that is welded to the chair frame.

5.Adjust the height of the front casters by either adding or removing spacers on top of the fork stem until the chair frame is parallel with the floor.

6.Reinstall the locknut and dust cover onto the chair.

NOTE: A 1/4-inch and 1/2-inch spacer are provided, however, it is possible that smaller washers may be required to fine tune the caster height.
